PinpointCreate, the Southend based Creative Arts Organisation, has received £47,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the SOUTHEND WORLD WAR 1: REMEMBER US project.
The project aims to show the lives of the people of Southend during the First World War and how the war affected them.

PinpointCreate will work in collaboration with local schools, Southend Museums and Southend Council to present a series of events and performances during 2015.

The focus will be on Southend as it looked out as events of the war unfolded and how these events shaped the lives and experiences in the town.

A new professional theatre production will be created to begin the project. The performance will be written by Pinpoint's resident writer Tony Michaels and directed by Mike Dodsworth. It will take place in Southend's new Beecroft Gallery (formerly Southend Central Library). The lecture hall will be transformed into a Music Hall stage which will be the setting for the new play and the series of events and performances by Schools and Community performers.

Along with Southend Museums PinpointCreate will hold workshops helping Schools and groups with research and development of their own projects and performances.
Primary schools will be able to attend the Exhibition at Southend Museum on WW1 and then see the new show in the Beecroft Gallery.
We hope to connect the present generation of young people as well as the older generation to the town's past and heritage.

Mary-Ann Connolly - Creative Director PinpointCreate:
We are delighted to be working with Southend museums again. This is another project which will bring to life the fascinating history of Southend-on Sea through the real lives and experiences of the people who lived in the town. It is very exciting to be able to create a performance space in the Beecroft and we can't wait to work with local schools and help them tell their stories.

Robyn Llewellyn - Head of Heritage Lottery Fund East of England:
The impact of the First World War was far reaching, touching and shaping every corner of the UK and beyond. This project will enable people to explore what that meant for Southend, its people and communities.
HLF is supporting projects across the country that explore the impact of the war on communities. Together these hundreds of projects are forming a rich picture of life at the time and will ensure that the centenary leaves a lasting legacy.

Councillor Graham Longley - Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Executive Councillor for Enterprise, Tourism and Economic Development:
Our Museums Service is delighted to work with Pinpoint to help young people in Southend understand the impact the Great War had on the town.
This project will be a really significant addition to the ongoing programme of events taking place across Southend to commemorate the centenary of the start of the Great War.
